Cicada Communications has been working with one of the world’s biggest film studios this summer to produce an educational game for primary school children across the UK.

DreamWorks Studios were looking for partners to promote their winter blockbuster, the computer animated comedy Bee Movie (Cert TBC). The film is released nationwide on December 14, and follows the story of Barry B Benson, a graduate bee who sues the human race after making the shocking discovery that humans have been stealing honey for centuries.

Acting as consultants to the Royal Entomological Society (RES) for the past five years, Cicada managed the deal which resulted in a partnership with the film studio. Cicada produced an educational resource game on behalf of the RES about bees, which primary school children can play in class.

The finished product, ‘Into the Hive’ features characters and artwork from the forthcoming film, and multiple choice questions for children aged 5 – 11, with clear links to the National Curriculum. All questions and insect facts included in the game were approved by the society’s bee experts.

The game is supported by the Department for Children Schools and Families, Growing Schools, and the Year of Food and Farming, and we had great fun launching it at the Kempton Park Entomology Exhibition in September.
