In true fashion the insect world has been keeping us busy, with another National Insect Week taking place in hundreds of locations around the country throughout the month of June. Not content with the buzz around the campaign, scientists at the Royal Entomological Society then landed a corker of a story on us; Dr Richard Harrington bought an aphid in amber on eBay for just £20. After much research the aphid was declared a new species which was named mindarus harringtoni after Dr Harrington. This story had a huge profile in the national and international media – from the Daily Telegraph to an appearance on the Today Programme, the World Service, regional BBC and commercial radio stations and even on Australian national radio.

Beverley Webster of Leeds-based IFA Prosperis set up and became chairman of Charlie’s Trust. Cicada has launched the Trust and we continue to support this worthy cause and promote its many fundraising activities. Visit www.charliestrust.org for more information on how to get involved.

And after months of writing copy and managing the national advertising campaign, the stunning new Lapicida brochure was born. Lapicida is a natural stone specialist with a spectacular showroom on the outskirts of Harrogate. You may have seen the brochure in the likes of the Sunday Times and Elle Decoration.

Finally, we managed the IoD’s Director of the Year Awards for the fourth year running on 4 September. The prestigious event was held at the Queens Hotel in Leeds and saw business leaders recognised in nine categories including Young Director, Business Adviser, and Lifetime Achievement. Guests were treated to a performance from the world renowned Red Hot Chilli Pipers and a big congratulations to our client Craig Miller of Extend-a-Room who scooped the Entrepreneur of the Year award. Craig’s company, a home extension specialist, has gone from strength to strength since it was founded in 2005.  In the last three months alone, Craig has doubled the size of his Harrogate-based head office, introduced a new fleet of vans and recruited eight new team members.
