Registration is now open for the Yorkshire Pedalthon 2022 which will see cyclists tackle the famous hills and climbs of the region while raising money for charity.
The Pedalthon is a firm fixture in the calendar of keen cyclists and businesses looking to network and entertain in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside.
It has welcomed more than 1,500 cyclists from 300 businesses and raised £80,000 for local charities since its launch in 2014. Yorkshire Pedalthon 2022 takes place on 8 September, raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Organised by Iconic Cycling Events, the Pedalthon takes place over two routes, starting and finishing at Masham Cricket Club.
A 38-mile Castles route takes cyclists past Jervlaux Abbey to Middleham and on to Wensley and Castle Bolton, returning via Leyburn, Hutton Hang and High Burton.
A longer 67-mile Tour de France Classic route features the famous Buttertubs Pass after cyclists pass through Aysgarth and Bainbridge and return via Gunnerside, Reeth and Leyburn. Buttertubs is renowned for its difficulty after it featured in the Yorkshire leg of the Tour de France in 2014.
Food stops will be available along both routes for cyclists to recharge their batteries and enjoy some of the region’s specialities. The event champions local food producers who are supporting the event with donations of tea, cheese, savoury and sweet treats.
Richard Best, CEO of Iconic Cycling Events, said: “We are delighted to be staging the Yorkshire Pedalthon this year after an enforced break because of the pandemic. Excitement is building as our longstanding supporters return and new ones are attracted to join us. We expect 200-250 riders to take part and it promises to be a great event as ever in the surroundings of the fantastic Yorkshire countryside.”
The Yorkshire Pedalthon 2022 is being staged in partnership with the Institute of Directors Yorkshire and North East, one of the UK’s leading business support organisations.
This year’s sponsors are Carter Jonas, DWF Law, Absolute Interiors and Breathing Space.
Individual riders and teams of six, eight or 10 – who can also raise funds for their own chosen charities – are invited to enter the Pedalthon. Additional sponsors are invited to support the event.
