Cicada devised National Insect Week (NIW) for the Royal Entomological Society.

Objective – to promote awareness of the value of a diverse insect world to the environment. NIW is supported by more than 70 national partner organisations concerned about natural history and biodiversity and enjoys the support of celebrities and eminent scientists.

Result – Cicada secured an invitation to conduct a bioblitz at Clarence House and the involvement on the day of (what was) HRH The Prince of Wales. Cicada managed media and digital relations, high profile launch events at Clarence House and the Natural History Museum (with Jonathan Ross) and a nationwide programme of interactive fun events (including an Edible Insect demonstration at National Trust Fountains Abbey for local schoolchildren), activities and competitions for all the family to bring the insect world to life. In addition, Cicada supplied general communications advice.

Cicada secured £1.23m of earned media coverage including The Guardian Online, The Daily Express, CBeebies and the BBC Things to Do section on its website, The Times Educational Supplement and First News, the UK’s bestselling weekly for children (circulation 53,067). Additional broadcast media included national broadcast coverage on BBC, Radio 2, BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4, as well as Classic FM and LBC.
